Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2, People named Marie, and the whole Romy thing

Hello again! Sorry I've been kind of quiet, lately.

Anyway, I see that Marie B. who visited Jodi's blog, commented on my last entry, Dubya Sings. First of all - Hi Marie, from another Marie! Romy is, well, it's a "pet name" I guess, for my legal first and middle names, Rose Marie. My mom wanted to name me Marie, and call me Marie, and my dad wanted to name me Rose. Marie Rose didn't sound right, so they decided to name me Rose Marie, and just call me by my middle name. It's kind of a family tradition, although I don't think that it was ever done intentionally. My dad's mom goes by her middle name, and my dad's sister also goes by her middle name. Perhaps that's the reason why my parents thought of doing it, because at least on my dad's side of the family, it was a normal thing to do. I have carried on the tradition with the naming of my youngest child, Alex. His legal first and middle names are Victor Alexander.

So, Romy......I've never actually gone by Romy, except online, and only in the "uberverse", and here on my blog. Back in the hey-day of the "Uberbrain", our resident cannuck, CanaDeb(aka Debachu, UberDeb, etc, and not to be mistaken for EvilDeb, they are not the same person, though I know EvilDeb, as well) was debating whether or not she wanted to continue to go by just Deb, or if she wanted to start using her full name, again, Debra. So, a conversation about various versions of one's name ensued, and in my case, Romy was what was decided on. I actually think that Jodi was one of the strongest supporters of my use of the name Romy. My mom is Rose, and while I like the name, it just isn't me, you know what I mean? I started going by Romy, on the Uberbrain, from there on out, and so, when I started this blog, courtesy of Jodi (I am so grateful for that!), Romy it was. I like the name, and wouldn't mind going by it, all the time, except that at 35, it's kind of hard to re-program everything, and everyone who knows you as Marie. Besides, I am very fond of the name Marie, as there are many people with that (middle) name, but not a lot of people who go by it. So, there's the not so exciting story behind the name Romy. Here on my blog you can address me as Romy, or Marie, or Hey You, or whatever. =)

Now, onto the subject of Marie B's comment. She said "That's fantastic and hilarious! I love the live version of that song, but this version takes the cake.". To that I have to ask, by live version, are you referring to the version in U2's actual video, the one from Red Rocks, in 1983? If so, then, guess what? My brother, Brian, who has also commented on this blog, was AT that concert, and, you can actually see him! Well, ok, you can't really see him, but you can spot where he was. There are a few people in the crowd who are holding up small signs, and such, but there is only one area where there is actually a flag, on a pole, being waved back and forth. That's him, and his friends. I don't recall how they accomplished this, exactly, but poles weren't allowed, but they somehow were able to sneak one in, and so that's why they are the only one's with one, waving back and forth. You can spot it a number of times, but the best view is from the stage, out into the crowd, he's on the lefthand side of the screen, fairly close to the front.

Anyway, that's probably not terribly exciting, either, especially since you rarely get to see the video, anymore. It was very, very, cool though, at the time, because I could be watching TV, see the video, and wave at the screen and say, "Hi Brian!". Ah, the 80's, how I miss them so.

So, that's it - a fairly boring entry. I'll try to come up with some thing more exciting next time, like maybe that whole England trip entry I've talked about a few times. That may be a ways off, it's kind of difficult to work on, right now, while still in the grieving process, for my dad.

Hi Marie B! So happy to "meet" you, and thank you for checking out my blog! I am going to check yours out, and hopefully we'll bump into each other again.
