It's a different world than where we came from
Yesterday afternoon Stephen, and Veronica were working on their homework, and pestering each other some, in the process, as sibings are wont to do.
I was in the bathroom, at one point, and could overhear their conversation. At one point I could swear that Veronica called her brother a "maggot", but then she called him something that I couldn't quite make out. Immediately after that, though, I heard Stephen say, "Do you know what a _________ is?" I was 99% certain that I had heard what he said, correctly, and was waiting to hear the response when the conversation fizzled out. I was also 99% certain that I knew what Stephen's answer was going to be, and that's why I was so bummed that it didn't get beyond that.
So, when I come out of the bathroom, a few minutes later, I sit down, and ask Stephen, "Hey, what was that, that Veronica called you, and you asked her if she knew what it was?" He couldn't remember, and was sitting there thinking, and thinking, and thinking. Finally he had that lightbulb moment, and said, "Veronica called me a computer!", and then Veronica piped in, "Yeah, that's right, I called you a Macintosh".
I explained that, yes, it was a computer, but (and Stephen started laughing his head off at "computer butt" - just one of the many joys of having a 10 year old boy), that it was also a kind of apple. I told them that the computer company that makes the MAC is named, "Apple", and that is why they named it such. Stephen said, "oh, you mean like 'Granny Smith'?", and I said, "Yes, exactly. So you're right, it's a computer, but it was a type of apple, first".
*giggle*
Oh how the world is completely different from when I was 8 or 10 years old. I doubt I'd have even known that it was an apple, and I'd have had no idea, whatsoever, that it would someday be the name of a computer!
I really, really wish that there had been something like Napster, or Kazaa, when I was a teenager. That would have rocked.
I feel old.

it's quite complimentary to be called a Macintosh.
