The results of Alex's chromosome tests are back
Talked with the doctor, this morning, and the most recent series of tests that they ordered all came back normal. The doctor said that there is a margin of error, so it's not 100% certain that 22q13 isn't what's going on, with Alex, but she also said that, at this point in time, science is rather limited, in it's knowledge of chromosomes, and all the various abnormalities that could occur. She also said that new info is being released, all the time, and now that Alex is in the geneticist's database, if anything comes back with criteria that matches him, we'll be the first to know.
So, it's good news, and bad news, all wrapped up into one big ball. This is also going to make it much tougher to get accepted for SSI. The doc I talked to thinks that if we let them know that Alex is one of their clients, that it should go smoothly, but I don't know. We have an appointment, for a telephone interview, next tuesday morning - so keep all of your fingers and toes crossed for us, ok?
Between this stuff, the girls coming, various crap with the ex, and some financial woes, to boot, I really feel like I'm at the bottom of the barrel. It's been a really, really, tough week.

I'm number 1!
I just did a little playing around, with Google, and guess what?!?! I'm the number one hit, for both, "Beer can up the butt, chicken", as well as just, "beer can up the butt". Hrmmm.......I wonder what kind of traffic I might get, as a result.....

Asshole!
Our cat, Shadow, is missing. =( She's been gone since last wednesday, and at this point, we don't have a clue where she is. We've searched, and searched our neighborhood, and beyond, and yesterday we stopped at the two closest shelters, and took a look, as well. We are well aware of the possibilities, but we're trying not to give up hope.
Stephen's been having some real serious issues with lying and stealing, and Victor, and I, sat down with John, and his fiance' yesterday, before the games, to discuss that, and try to brain storm for ideas in how to best deal with it. During the conversation, Stephen's lack of empathy, and remorse, came up, many times.
Fast forward to the game. As we're sitting there, I tell John that there is something kind of sensitive, that I needed to talk to the kids about, and that I was going to wait until after the games, to do it. He asked what it was, and I told him that Shadow was missing.
What he did next was just......well, see for yourself. Right after I said that, he turned towards Victor, and said, "Ah, a Shadow pancake, eh?"....uhhhh...WHAT?!?! As Victor, and I were still trying to pick our jaws up, off the ground, he starts chuckling, again, and then really outdoes himself. This time he comes up with, "Shadow on a stick" - WHAT.THE.FUCK.
???
Victor, and I, didn't really talk about it, until much later in the day, and during that conversation, Victor told me that he'd had a serious temptation to turn to John, after he said that, and say, "Well, I guess we know where Stephen gets his empathy problems, from".
I really wish that he had.
I am still in a state of shock, over that.
What an asshole.

Some afternoon fun...
...thanks to Jodi.
You scored as Cultural Creative. Cultural Creatives are probably the newest group to enter this realm. You are a modern thinker who tends to shy away from organized religion but still feels as if there is something greater than ourselves. You are very spiritual, even if you are not religious. Life has a meaning outside of the rational.

Five questions for Judy
Ok, Judy, here ya go! Remember, answer them on your own blog, and then ask questions of your readers, who agree to it. =)
1) If you were given $5000, and one day to spend it - how would you use the money, and why?
2) If you could spend the afternoon with anyone, living, or dead, who would it be, why them, and what would you do?
3) When you were a kid, what did you really want to be, when you grew up?
4) What food(s) do you absolutely despise?
5) If a genie gave you three wishes, what would you wish for?
Kinda lame questions - sorry, my brain is still mush from this cold turned sinus infection. Yuck.

Happy Mother's Day!
I suspect that I may be the only mother who frequents my blog, but I still wanted to put a shout out, on here, for all mothers - including the mom's of all my dear internet friends who I follow around, from blog, to blog. =)
I'm still sick as anything, but I think that my sense of taste might be coming back, at least for now - let's just hope it stays that way through the early afternoon - yummy chinese buffet - need I say more?

Bleech, Pt. 2
Well, I was hoping that I'd be feeling better, this morning, but nope - health was just not in the cards. I am feeling even worse than yesterday.
I just called John, and let him know that I wasn't going to be able to make it to Stephen, and Veronica's soccer games, today, which really bums me out. My parents are getting ready to go, so at least someone from our side of the family will be there, to cheer them on, which does make me feel a little better. My dad did make it to the games, last week, but this will be my mom's first time seeing them play, which is exciting for both her, and the kids. Next week is the last week - their last games, and I can't imagine I'll still be this sick, so at least I won't miss that!
I just got done taking as much cold/flu medicine, as I can, without poisoning myself, so I think I'm going to go crawl back in bed, and hope that a restful day today, works towards a MUCH better day, tomorrow. I would really like to be able to enjoy my mother's day (Steve and Veronica will be coming back over, for the day). I mean, at this point, I can't even taste a damn thing, and we're going to this really awesome chinese buffet, for lunch tomorrow. I want to taste what I'm eating - dammit!
Ok, off to bed with me.
I hope the rest of you are having a nice, beautiful, relaxing, and fun Saturday!

Answering my 5 questions
Well, my body is not cooperating, at all, and I am actually feeling worse than I did, this morning. I did say that I would get back on here, and answer the questions that Thomas posed, so here they are...
1) You win a trip for four to Hedonism III in Jamaica. You can pick anyone to go along with you. Who would you pick and why?
This was probably the toughest question for me to answer. Obviously I would be using one of the four tickets, so that means I've got to pick three more people....
1) Victor - There isn't another person in the world that I would want to get hedonistic with, and I think that the two of us would have a blast, together, in Jamaica, or anywhere, for that matter.
2) Jodi - We always have a blast, together, be it going to oxygen bars, gay bars, or even just hanging out, shoving macaroni and cheese in each other's faces. Besides, I believe that Jodi could use a bit more Hedonism, in her life, and I could live vicariously through her, since I have no desire to stray from my relationship. She, on the otherhand, is single, and can go wild!
3) My brother, Brian - Probably seems like a strange choice, but, he is one of my best friends, and he's a bit of a wild child, even if it developed later in life, and something like this just screams his name. He could probably find several people to hang around naked with (he's a nudist), there, and well.......whatever else that might go along with it. That is, so long as I, personally, don't have to see him, sans clothing.
2) You've been given tickets to the viewing section of a hospital's operating theater. Would you go watch a surgery, and if so what kind would you pick? (Vasectomy? Heart transplant/bypass? etc.)
Yes, I would definitely go and watch a surgery, though, it's gotta be something really interesting, and something that I probably won't catch on the Discovery channel.
Keeping that in mind, I'm going to have to go with "Sex Change Operation". I've seen limited coverage, of this type of thing, always leaving the most interesting parts out, and honestly, I'd really like to see just what it is, that they do, and how.
3) You visit a friend who likes to watch "Law and Or-dull: SVU (Snoring Viewers Unit)" with you. While she's getting the snacks ready, you accidentally hit the play button the VCR and see that it's a tape of her and an unidentified man having some of the hottest sex ever. You stop the tape before she comes back, but do you tell her you saw her barking like a dog, or do you keep mum?
Oh...too easy! Yes, I would definitely tell her that I saw it.=)
4) If you could contact a lost childhood friend again, who would it be and why?
One of the neighbor girls, that I grew up with, Sabrina. There were three of us girls, all the same age, who grew up together, on our rural street. We spent so much time together, and yet, I haven't spoken with Sabrina in over 10 years. I am still in contact with the other girl, Katie (though not as much as I'd like). Sabrina doesn't live very far away, either, unlike Katie, so it doesn't make much sense that we don't see each other, or at least, talk, every now and then.
In the same vein - I got an e-mail, in my inbox, yesterday, from one of my high school boyfriends, who I hadn't seen/spoken to, in many, many, years. No - nothing romantic, just saying "hi" to an old friend. It was a very nice surprise, and I was very happy to hear that he's doing well, and has a lovely family, now.
5) What was your favorite breakfast cereal when you were younger, and do you still eat it today?
Another easy one - Frosted Flakes, and yes, I still eat them, when I remember to buy them (they were in the forefront of my mind a lot more, when I wasn't in control of the shopping, all those years ago).
So, there ya go. Now it's your turn - anyone out there feel like having me ask questions of you, that you can answer on your own blog? Yeah? Cool. Leave a comment, and I'll get to crackin' on those questions for ya!
Posted by Romy at 03:57 PM | Comments (6)
Bleech!
I am sick. It's all Jodi's fault, I just know it. She tried to tell me that remote communication with her, was safe, but, I don't buy it! =)
Anyway, I have agreed to do a little "inter-blog" questionaire thingie, where someone else poses 5 questions to me, on their blog, that I am to answer here, on mine. From there, I am suppose to ask 5 questions, of my own, to anyone who reads this, and is interested in doing it. They, then, have to answer my questions, on their blog, and then ask questions of their readers, and so on, and so forth....
I've got my questions, courtesy of Thomas, and am hoping to get them answered, and posted here, before the end of the day, today.
Right now, however, all of my kids are off being scholarly, so I am going to take the opportunity to go get some much needed rest. ZZZzzzz......be back later.

Beer can up the butt, chicken
The time has come to share with you the joys of making Beer can up the butt, chicken (otherwise known as beer can up the hoo-hoo, chicken). So, sit back, relax, and enter if you dare...
What in the world do I do with this?!?!

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
1 chicken, approx. 5 lbs (inside "stuff" removed)
1 can of beer (I suggest a whole 6 pk - drink the other 5 before you begin)
4 TBSP fresh rosemary - chopped
3 TBSP garlic - chopped (or you can be lazy, and use the jarred stuff, like me)
Olive oil
Kosher salt
Pepper
PREPARATION:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees
Rinse chicken well, and pat dry with paper towels
Mix rosemary & garlic together

Use olive oil to massage chicken (it relaxes, and lubricates!)

Season with salt & pepper

Rub rosemary/garlic mixture well into chicken

Pour half of beer into roasting pan

Add any extra rosemary/garlic mixture to can

Place beer can in the center of roasting pan

Ever so gently push chicken down onto can

Roast chicken for 15 minutes, then turn down to 350 degrees, and cook for approximately 20 min. per lb

Chicken is done when you can poke it, and the juices run clear, or, it reaches a temp of 180 degrees

Take a moment to admire the beauty before you (TADA!)

Carefully remove can, and let sit for 15 before serving

Tell everyone to get their butts to the table

Serve, eat, and ENJOY!

TASTE REVIEW:
This chicken was so delicious! Perfectly seasoned, and sinfully moist! We served it with a garden salad, mashed potatoes, and gravy, and all the plates were practically licked clean! Try it, you won't be disappointed! =)
WORD OF THANKS:
This recipe was brought to you, courtesy of Sam the cooking guy, a San Diego local, with his own, exceptionally cool, show! Make sure to check out his site, and try his recipes - they're good, and easy to make. I've not been disappointed, yet! Thanks Sam!!!

Smirky smirk
(The chicken adventure is over, but it's going to take me a bit, to put together the expose', so, you're just going to have to wait a bit longer, for that)
Since I just cannot be outdone by Jodi, I've now added my very own smirky face, to my blog. See? ---------->
Actually, the truth of the matter is that the smirk was caught in one of the expose' pics, and I was so impressed with my unplanned smirkiness, I shared it with Jodi, and she said I should put it up. I guess we're the smirky girl blog clique, or something....? I dunno, but, it's me, and it's a smirk, so there ya go!
Off to work on my next entry!

All systems go
Just a quick entry, to inform you all that the chicken has a beer can up it's hoo-hoo, and is now sitting, uncomfortably, in the very, very, hot oven!
Yes, there were a lot of photos snapped, during the preparation process, but I'm not going to put together the whole expose' until the project is complete, and I have had a chance to sample said chicken.
It looks great, and smells even better, so I think this is going to be a rousing (roasting?) success. It's the first serious cooking I've done in my new oven, too, so it's doubly exciting!
Full report within the next 24 hours - promise!
